Knap On Crane for Odense Tram

In a collaboration between ASP Product and Odense Tram, which operates the modern light rail system in Odense, we faced a unique challenge. Odense Tram needed a customised solution for efficiently handling the 200 kg concrete slabs protecting their technical installations. Our task was to adapt our standard Knap On Crane to meet these specific requirements while improving safety and efficiency in their daily operations.

The Challenge

Odense Tram faced a significant challenge when handling the 200 kg concrete slabs protecting the technical infrastructure that operates the light rail system in Odense. These heavy slabs would normally require several employees and heavy machinery to lift and move. This was not only time-consuming but also involved a risk of work-related injuries due to heavy manual lifting.

In addition, bringing the necessary machinery into the work areas presented a logistical challenge.

Our Solution

In collaboration with Odense Light Rail, ASP Product developed a custom lifting beam and trolley specifically designed for use with our Knap On Crane.

The solution makes it possible to lift and transport the heavy concrete slabs safely and efficiently. The lifting beam is designed to handle slabs of different sizes, providing flexibility during daily operations.

The trolley is designed to move around the slab being lifted and transport it suspended from a chain. This eliminates the need for additional machinery and significantly reduces the physical strain on employees.

Installation and Customisation

To ensure maximum usability and flexibility, the trolley and lifting beam were designed for easy installation and adjustment.

Odense Light Rail also received an additional mounting plate that can be installed in a company vehicle, on a trailer or at the workshop. This makes it possible to remove the crane and use it at different locations, further increasing the efficiency and versatility of the solution.

The result is not only an ergonomic and safe lifting solution but also a highly mobile one. The system allows a single employee to carry out the task independently without having to perform heavy manual lifting or rely on additional machinery.

This customised solution from ASP Product enables work involving the heavy light rail slabs to be carried out more efficiently and safely, while requiring fewer resources.
